Economic Impact Assessments
Grupo Spurrier conducts assessments of the impact that private sector decisions may have on the economy, as well as of the effects of government policy changes on private sector activities. Grupo Spurrier produces forecasts of the effects of economic policy proposals on key economic indicators, such as employment, investment, and exports, and on the economy as a whole, as well as on specific sectors or industries.
Who might be interested in economic impact assessments?
Companies, organizations, public relations groups, law offices, government agencies, and other clients use our assessments to explain the significance of their economic activities. They may also be used to suggest how much their contributions would be increased or diminished as a result of changes in public policies.
How do we add value through our economic impact assessments?
- We have completed several assessments that measure the impact of productive sectors and industries on the national economy, in terms of jobs, income, and taxes collected. These documents have been used to inform interested clients and government officials about the economic impacts of certain industries, such as tobacco manufacturers, shrimp growers, oil and fuel companies.

- Every year Grupo Spurrier conducts an analysis of the situation of the financial system with the goal of keeping the readers of Weekly Analysis adequately informed.
- Grupo Spurrier also makes presentations and assessments of particular cases, in order to provide information on specific issues related to the Ecuadorian banking system.
International Trade and Tariffs
Weekly Analysis and CAPP estimate the effects of changes in tariffs over the flow of Government revenues. Our clients use these assessments to propose changes in taxes assessed on trade.
Follow-up of Fiscal Policy and Debt Sustainability Analysis
Grupo Spurrier is also developing a series of financial, fiscal, and other indicators that will serve to analyze the financial and fiscal sustainability of the economy. Our sustainability assessments are based on the framework of sustainability proposed by multilateral bodies, but they go beyond, as we strive to capture the particular realities that characterize the Ecuadorian economy. We conduct analyses of scenarios, complemented with statistical border tests. We use indicators to analyze fiscal policy. We also expect to develop a series of financial indicators that will serve as early warning signs of impending crises.
